It's been awhile....

And a lot of shit has happened too. Hmm....Where to Start....

  • I took the Job with Kimley-Horn I start August 1st in Orange.
  • I proposed to Heidi on March 21st, she said "Yes", we are getting married next June sometime.
  • I graduated from Cal Poly!
  • I bought a new car!
  • I am moving down to Orange County...where it's very expensive.
  • I picked up Golf, and I now have a new set of Golf Clubs. (Anyone wanna go golfing?)

That may not look like a lot, but it's kind of hard to handle it all at once. But I'm dealin'. See ya!

Job Update!
Pavement Engineering Inc.
- Amount still to be determined on Monday.
Kiewit Pacific - Hefty salary, you can contact me if you want to know how much. I'm going on a field trip of one of their construction sites over break so I can make a more informed decision about the job offer.
RBF Consulting - Rated #1 company to work for in 2005. I have an interview over break in Irvine!
Coastland Civil Engineering - Company in Santa Rosa, one of my dad's friends works there and really wants to show me around and talk to me about my plans...
The Structural Group - I actually am not sure why I applied here. But I got an interview, should be good practice.
Kimley Horn and Associates - A huge company rated #1 company to work for in 2004. Interview in Orange on January 16th, they are paying for my mileage and getting me a hotel room across the street from their office! Should be fun!

Yeah it's been awhile, but here's an update. I think I picked the right major, I love what I do, and there is a huge demand for my type...so far I've had two job offers and its not even December....yeah....I graduate in JUNE! So that feels pretty good. Here's the dealy with the offers:

Pavement Engineering Inc. - I'm not surprised about this one since I've been working here for four years. I actually don't know too much about how much they want to offer me and what kind of benefits they have, but my boss comes in my office weekly and asks if I'm ready to start talking bout that kinda stuff...
The Lo-Down: I definatley know what I'm getting myself into here, a lot fo traveling, a lot of design work, and a little bit of field work. They focus only on Pavement Rehabilitation, i kinda wish i could expand a little more than that, but I'd be really specialized in pavements and could get a job anywhere after that if i wanted; possible ownership within the company in the future. I would likely get a company vehicle as soon as i started full time. Prolly wouldn't pay as well as bigger companies. Job is in SLO - away from the girly.

Kiewit Pacific - I had my second interview with them yesterday and they said that they are definatley going to make me an offer. I haven't recieved it yet, but it should be coming shortly.
The Lo-Down: This is a HUGE heavy construction company, I'd be a field engineer/estimator. I'd make sure the project isn't going over budget, I'd order supplies, and I'd design temporary structures (such as lifts for the crews). I'd work from 6AM to 6PM M-F, possible relocation involved, but only for certain projects. I would be required to setup shop in LA - close to the girly. Prolly will pay better, and after working there for awhile, i would be offered a company vehicle and stock in the company since it's privatley owned.

I'll keep you all posted on the job search, this is getting interesting...I'm starting to enjoy it :)

OK, havent updated in awhile, but here goes.

Marching Band is going....umm...well...ok I guess? Our "new" "director" who is the interim director until we find a full-time person is doing two completely contrasting things: making us sound really good, but causing most of the people in the band not to like it. The reason why people dont like it is because he yells A LOT, he doesn't give us any time to prepare, we play the same five songs over and over again, he treats us like a concert band, and he took a primarily student-run organization and is now ruling it with an iron fist, which upset a lot of people. He writes really old-style traditional drill (we're talkin like 70's style), and it's just kinda funky. But, hey, we sound good....

I'm taking 3 classes:
-The Analysis and Design of Shallow Foundations (basically something you would building a building on)
-Steel Analysis and Design (something you use to build a building)
-British Literature 1900-modernism (something that's worhtless that you study inside of a building that someone designed that sits on the ground that someone made sure could handle the load.)
So all my classes are just an extention of each other, kinda....

Job search has started, I hope to have a job secured either by the end of this quarter or next quarter. I'm kinda nervous about the whole situation, but I'll update you all as soon as I know what's going on.
